About Trulery
At Trulery Shop, we curate vintage clothing from the Y2K era through the 60s and beyond. The clothes have a modern twist—ready for both street style and runway fashions. Using trend forecasting and style intuition, we source pieces with a timeless spirit that appeal to women’s desire for that elusive piece they’ve only seen in their head but haven’t been able to find anywhere. Our mission is to empower women to express their identity through re-imagined vintage fashion, showing that understanding the past can inspire a confident and refined personal style.
At Trulery, we believe that understanding our style sensibilities is key to expressing our true selves. Our mission is to provide fashion and design psychology consultation services that empower individuals to explore the influences shaping their personal style. Through personalized consulting, psychoeducation, and styling, we create a nurturing environment for self-discovery, inspiration, and rejuvenation. We aim to help clients develop an authentic sense of identity and style that reflects who they are and aspire to be. Trulery is all about being true to yourself and celebrating the unique journey of self-expression through fashion and design.
The Trulery Journey
After nearly a decade working as a psychologist in child trauma and abuse, I turned to fashion and design as a creative outlet. It exposed me to like-minded creatives, and opened my eyes to a whole artsy side of me that was yearning for expression. So in 2012, I did want my psychology colleagues were not doing— I started a fashion and design psychology blog. It was born out of my desire to offer interior and wardrobe consulting, styling services, and creative inspiration—all aimed at helping people express their true selves. Having once been torn between a career in psychology and fashion, I now embrace both through Trulery. As a wife, mother of three, and loyal friend, I draw from my personal experiences and faith in God to guide me in this largely uncharted career path. I’m pretty certain my Jamaican and Chinese heritage, obsession with old movies, and years of piano lessons have informed my creative sensibilities. My goal is to help you cultivate a true sense of identity and style through outfits and spaces and that reflect who you are and who you aspire to be, promoting emotional wellness in the process.
About Sarah
I hold a Ph.D. in counseling psychology and specialize in fashion and design psychology. Along the way, I completed a year-long mentorship in design psychology, learning tools like environmental autobiographies and ideal home blueprints to help people create spaces that truly reflect who they are. I also earned a certificate in interior design and am currently researching the connection between doctors' attire and how patients perceive their care.
Starting the Trulery Shop felt like the ideal way to bring my passion for fashion psychology to life. It's born out of my desire to apply fashion psychology research to how we dress in much the same way mental health therapists apply counseling research in their work with clients. Trulery Shop bridges the gap between fashion psychology research and applied fashion psychology. I focus on vintage clothing because I believe what we wear should tell our story. Each piece is thoughtfully chosen to help you express your true self and feel confident every day. I want you to find something here that feels uniquely you—a piece that’s not just clothing but a way to show the world who you are.
